Based on our first SANS mobile device survey (released in March of this year),1 it is obvious that mobile devices have become commonplace in organizations. The survey also revealed that organizations are nowhere near ready for this user-driven evolution. In the last survey, which drew more than 650 respondents, 61% allowed personal devices to connect to protected network resources, yet only 9% were “fully aware” of what those devices were and what they were accessing. Furthermore, 50% either didn’t have policies or depended on the user to comply with corporate policies for securing personally owned devices.
