Everyday technology connects not only our devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc) but unassuming objects such as our cars and appliances. This connectivity allows these devices to communicate and interact with each other. Granted this is a wonderful technological and social development, it is also a doorway to increased security risks. The Internet of Things presents security threats in the expansion of domains, the increase in dynamic activity cycles, and a mixture of interactions. The management of information security must also take into consideration the need to secure the infrastructure that is the Internet of Things. The management of security threats must be extended to include the possibility of threatening the Internet of Things and its consequences. The purpose of this paper is to explore the Internet of Things, the looming security threats, and the role of information security management in safeguarding this infrastructure.
